Method for managing emotions

Here I briefly present an inquiry-based method to work consciously with negative emotions, impulses and lower desires.

Inquiry is one of the most powerful methods to stop identifying with emotions, desires and impulses and get rid of them. This method based on inquiry that I present below will help you to effectively deal with emotions whenever they manifest in you throughout the day.

Undoubtedly, to effectively apply this method you must systematically practice meditation and develop some important sattvic qualities and capacities of the mind, as well as practice this method at home.

  • There is a variety of ways to inquire into our emotions in order to:
  • become more aware of them,
  • disidentify from them,
  • understand them and finally
  • release their energy and get rid of them.

Here I will present one of them along with a prayer for the dissolution of low vibrationg emotions and egoic energies.

I also remind you that to get rid of lower emotions we must work with other psychological factors such as our desires, attachments, false needs and dependence, pride, self-esteem, self-worth, increase of sattva quality in the mind and elimination of rajas and tamas.

Applying the method

Let’s see how we can apply this method to deal with emotional reactions. Obviously, being already in a state of mindfulness, self-observation and Self-awareness is the best condition to apply this method easily and effectively. And this implies that we systematically practice meditation and also other practices at home in the morning and evening and try to live mindfully and Self-aware, moment by moment.

So, whenever an emotion or an impulse arises in you, you can contemplate the following questions:

To whom this arises? Am I this emotion (or impulse) or is it something that happens in me?

This contemplation will help you to be more attentive, to get in touch (or deepen) with the inner silence, to become fully aware of the emotion and to distance yourself (dettach, disidentify) from the emotional reaction and thus avoid or stop identifying yourself completely with it.

With this inner state you can realize that:

  • it is only a mechanical compulsive reaction, 
  • it is only agitating your mind and distracting you from inner peace and bliss by a mere meaningless energetic puppetry.
  • you are not that emotional or impulsive reaction, 

Once you take distance and realize the above, the emotion or impulse loses its importance and the charm it exerts on you and diminishes to some degree or totally depending on the circumstances, your inner state of the moment and the intensity of the expression of the emotion.

The more attentive and in deep contact with the inner silence we are, the easier it will be to notice the emotion as soon as it arises and the easier it will be to avoid identification with it and let it go.

We can maintain a high level of alertness and Self-awarenes theoughout the day by repeating a mantra (i.e., Om nama Shivay), an affirmation of our true Self (i.e., Consciousness I am, silence I am, peace I am, Ooommm, Ooommm, Ooommm), or other luminous affiramtions (i.e., Peace, I am, Love I am, Ligh I am, Ooommm peace, Ooommm Love, Ooommm Light, Ooommm, Ooommm, Ooommm),

Prayer for dissolution

I strongly recommend concluding this process by praying for the Divine Mother or Divine power or God to eliminate the emotional energy and fill us with peace, love and light.

Here I present some ways we can ask the Divine power for the dissolution of the egoic energy.

First way

We gather the attention within and being aware of the inner silence in the centre of our existence, we say from the heart: ‘O Divine Mother (you can also pray to Jesus Christ, or to God, etc. ) eliminate this energy of anger (shame, guilt, or whatever is , or freed my mind from the anger energy and permeate me with light, peace and love. ‘I am peace, love and light’, ‘I am peace, love and light‘, ‘Everything is peace, love and light‘, ‘Only peace, love and light exist’, ‘Ooommm ‘peace, love and light, ‘Ooommm peace, love and light’, Ooommm, Ooommm, Ooommm’. As we say these words, we deepen the contact with the silent presence within us. I emphasize that is very important feeling what we say (not simply saying dry words) and being deeply aware of our inner silence as well.

Second way

We gather the attention within and being aware of the inner silence in the centre of our existence, we say from the heart: ‘Divine light, love and healing energy permeate my whole being and eliminate this energy of anger (shame, guilt, or whatever is) or cleanse my mind and heart from the anger energy and permeate me with peace, love and light. ‘I am peace, love and light’, ‘I am peace, love and light‘, ‘Everything is peace, love and light‘, ‘Only peace, love and light exist’, ‘Ooommm ‘peace, love and light, ‘Ooommm peace, love and light, Ooommm, Ooommm, Ooommm’. As we say these words, we deepen the contact with the silent presence within us. I emphasize that is very important feeling what we say (not simply saying dry words) and being deeply aware of our inner silence as well. 

When emotion persists

In case the emotion persists, is very seductive, and you find it difficult to disidentify yourself from it, then you can do some kind of inquiry or use another method* (see comment at the end) to reduce or annihilate the attraction and power that the emotion exerts on you and drastically reduce or totally stop (if possible) the identification with it and to achieve this it is useful to lastly contemplate the following:

What do I prefer, to live or be trapped in this ephemeral emotional turmoil (agitation, restlesness, unrest), or to be free, in peace and contentment?

This contemplation makes you remember the freedom you long for and feel happiness, which results in letting go of the emotion or impulse. Then you can pray again for the dissolution of the egoic energy.

Working with emotions or tendnecies at home

Later at home you can dedicate some time to investigate thoroughly* (see comment at the end) the emotions, impulses and the associated situation to know and understand them in depth and utilize some method for further eliminating their energy. 

You can use for their elimination the prayer along with affirmations and visualizations, EFT, the Healing Code, cleanse the energetic channels, chakras and subtle bodies and elimination in the 49 subconscious levels.

Desire manifests itself in various ways, which I call the mechanisms of desire. All of them relate to desires for pleasure, but some of them also relate to all the others.

Comment

some kind of inquiry or other method: there is a variety of inquiries and methods we can apply in order to disidentify from the emotion or impulse and get deeper in the silent space of Consciousness.
