🟣 Course – Method & Academy

In this section, the method of practice and the Academy of Atman Nityananda are briefly presented. The vision of the Academy and the manner in which the teaching is transmitted are outlined.

After more than 30 years of experience, practice, transformation, and awakening, Atman Nityananda developed a method of spiritual practice called “Advaita Atma Yoga – The Double Approach.”

Here is a synopsis of this transformative method. It will be thoroughly presented in the Module 04, and the entire course is based on and oriented toward this approach.

Advaita Atma Yoga – The Double Approach is a holistic approach based on the principles of Advaita Vedanta and the main paths of Yoga. However, it represents these ancient teachings in a way more digestible and comprehensible for people of this modern age.

In this holistic Yoga, a sattvic way of living is recommended, and the necessary knowledge, practices, and methods are provided to facilitate:

  • The transformation of our lower nature
  • The realization of our true nature (Essence, Self, Consciousness, Atman)

Advaita Atma Yoga takes into account the eight-step process of Raja Yoga as well as the Sadhana Chatustaya of Jnana Yoga, but approaches these models in a new way – what I call “The Double Approach.”

Note on Yoga: Yoga means union with the true Self or God. We call Yoga both the realization that we are one with God and the process to achieve this realization. The main paths of Yoga are: Karma, Raja, Bhakti, and Jnana Yoga. Raja Yoga & Sadhana Chatustaya will be thoroughly presented in Module 03 – The Spiritual Paths.

Advaita Atma Yoga is called “The Double Approach” because from the beginning of the spiritual journey, it aims in two directions:

1. Transformation of the Lower Self

Exploration, purification, transformation, and development of the body, prana, emotions, mind, and intellect.

2. Realization of the True Self

Inquiry, recognition, and conscious connection with our higher or true Self.

“The Double Approach” is a balanced, holistic way to achieve inner transformation, harmony, and Self-realization.

► As a bird needs two wings to fly smoothly, similarly we need both:

  • The harmonious development of our lower nature
  • Conscious living from our essence (Consciousness, Soul, Atman)

► From the beginning, we apply:

  • Techniques and methods for the exploration, purification, transformation, and development of the lower self
  • Methods and techniques to rediscover, recognize, and live aware of our essence or true Self
