Introduction
This text explores the nature of meditation as both a state of being and a spiritual practice. It presents meditation as the ultimate goal of all spiritual practices, — the conscious return to our divine essence at the center of existence.
Here you will find both the philosophical foundation and practical guidance for establishing yourself in the peace, silence, and fullness of Being.
Quick Reference
• Meditation is the effortless abidance of the mind in the silence of Being-Consciousness
• It involves experiencing freedom, beauty, peace, and fullness beyond body, thoughts, emotions, and ego
• Meditation also refers to the practice/method used to quiet the mind and maintain awareness in inner silence
• All self-knowledge and spiritual practices ultimately aim toward effective meditation
• The goal of meditation is to consciously abide and become established in the center of our existence
• Without conscious contact with our divine essence, spiritual practice and experience remain at a surface level.
• Prerequisites for deep steady meditation include dissolving defects, developing virtues, controlling mind and senses, and cultivating concentration, devotion, discrimination, dispassion, and equanimity
• Daily practice (morning and evening) should gradually increase to at least two hours
• Continuous practice allows you to maintain this peaceful presence throughout daily activities
Three Essential Points
- The Ultimate Goal
Meditation aims to transcend the egoic self and establish conscious awareness of our spiritual nature —Being-Consciousness itself— at the center of our existence where unfathomable silence, peace, and bliss reside.
- The Daily Practice
Sincere, steady, and systematic daily practice (morning and evening, gradually building to at least two hours) and moment to moment Self-awareness using a mantra or an affoirmation of our true nature are essential to develop and maintain conscious contact with our true nature.
- Living Meditation
Through continuous practice, meditation extends beyond formal sitting to become a way of being— being in contact with our divine essnece every moment and action becomes imbued with the love, peace, and fullness of Being in present-moment awareness.
