If you fall, rise and walk—do not complain
by Atman Nityananda
If you fall into the same mistake, rise and ‘walk’—do not complain.
Even if we fall a thousand times due to the same weakness, we must gradually become capable of rising as quickly as possible (immediately is best) and continue the effort without wasting time on self-blame, guilt, and other similar emotions.
The best thing we can do is to continue the effort with even more zeal and determination, doing whatever is in our power to eliminate the ego related to it.
When we don’t dwell on our mistakes, when we accept our weaknesses, when we forgive ourselves, when we seek refuge in our Being or in God, and when we focus on what we can do from here on, our self-confidence and determination to overcome this weakness, and every weakness, remains unshaken.
It is certain that we have within us the strength and continuous help of God to overcome this, as long as we are sincere in our intentions.
We must be very cautious about our weakness, so we can realize how our mind deceives us and leads us to repeat the same mistake. We must be vigilant to detect early the first faint thoughts, what our mental and emotional state was, and how it grew stronger within us.
We need to recognize and understand under what conditions these thoughts (impulses, emotions, etc.) manifest with force within us and make us lose control.
As we become more perceptive of this weakness or egoistic tendency, we eliminate it with the appropriate methods and take external measures so we don’t give it room and opportunities to manifest strongly and continue doing what it wants against our will.
In the process of our evolution and our path toward freedom, light, and love, we will make mistakes, but what matters is learning from them, not dwelling on them.
