Maintain the awareness of the inner silent presence
by Atman Nityananda
If we want to experience more and more of the peace and fullness that are always present within us and avoid the identifications and their consequences, we must diligently deepen, moment by moment, in the awareness of the inner silent presence and maintain it as the apple of our eye.
During the day, in moments when no ego is manifesting within us (whether slightly or intensely), we do not remain inactive but continue with the repetition of God’s name (if it is part of our practice, which, in my experience, is of fundamental importance) and deepen the awareness of the inner silent presence (self-awareness). And this for two reasons: First, because without deepening self-awareness, we cannot experience fullness, peace, and freedom. Second, if we remain internally inactive, the empty space will easily be filled by the ego, giving it room to manifest through thoughts, emotions, and desires, leading to identification once again, and we will be lost in them.
In moments when the ego isn’t strongly or moderately expressed, we are in a state of inner quiet, where there is no dominant identification with thoughts, emotions, or desires.
This is a time when deeper awareness can emerge. However, if we remain inactive or indifferent, the ego can subtly slip in, filling the void with habitual mental and emotional patterns and tendencies.
It is crucial to continue nurturing the awareness of the inner silent presence to maintain clarity and prevent the ego from reasserting itself. By doing so, we cultivate peace and fullness, remaining free from the grip of the ego.
The ‘secret’ to a plentiful life, a life of harmony, happiness and contentment is to have a sattvic mind free from desires and ego and to live in every moment in conscious contact with our true Self (Consciousness).
🌺 Peace, Love, Harmony
