Identification — Ego’s Inherent Power
by Atman Nityananda
Identification is not a function of the ego — it is its essential feature, its default capacity, its inherent power.
Just as fire inherently burns, the ego inherently identifies. Wherever the ego is present, identification is already there by default. It does not need to try to identify — it is identification. It cannot exist without attaching itself to something: body, thought, emotion, image, role, memory, possession, or desire. This process is not deliberate or chosen — it is automatic and constant.
The ego causes identification as fire causes burning.
It is the force that projects itself upon thoughts, imagination, objects, persons, and experiences, creating the illusion of “I am this” and “this is mine.”
The end of the ego begins when we start to step back and stop identifying with it and its innumerable expressions (lust, greed, gluttony, anger, pride, aversion, jealousy , fear,.etc.).

Repeat God’s name constantly
“The water to purify your heart is the name of God.” “Of utmost importance is to increase the repetition of God’s Name (japa) daily. In this way, your heart and mind will be purified, and only then will you find (realize) God within you.”
