✔ Death And Immortality (Philosophy of Death)
by Atman Nityananda /blog
Death is not the opposite of life but one of its fundamental components.
Birth is the opposite of death, and together they form the foundation of life, for without birth and death, life would not exist.
That which is born is destined to die, and in its place, something else will be born.
Only that which is beyond forms — the cause of all forms — is beyond birth and death. It is eternal, indestructible, complete, and perfect.
Although man fears death, it is only through death that he can find freedom. Without death, he would be condemned to live in confinement, delusion, pain, and misery for eternity.
If the old does not die, the new cannot be born. If we do not die to the lower, we cannot be born into the higher.
Not only physical death but also every kind of change and transformation is a form of death. Yet, while change is the essence of life, our ego resists it due to its attachment to what is familiar or pleasurable.
However, life, being in constant flux, is indifferent to the ego’s desires and moves ceaselessly towards new paths and horizons. The ego, attached to its fantasies and habits, is forced to suffer as a result.
The only solution and way forward is death — the death of our false ego, with all its vanities, illusions, attachments, beliefs, desires, passions, and flaws.
Only the death of the ego allows the free flow of life within us, on all levels, and enables our transformation into a divine being, fully conscious of our unity with God and the oneness of all existence.
