To break the identification with the mind, it is necessary to practice with goals

Without having a specific purpose or goal, it will be difficult to control your mind and difficult to disidentify from its contents (thoughts, opinions, fantasies, emotions, impulses).
You will perceive the mechanical, automatic thoughts, emotions, desires, and impulses of the rajasic-tamasic ego as your own choices.
So, if you say, for example, that while I am on the bus going to work, I will think and remember that I am light and love, or I will remember God and repeat His name (or any goal you choose), then whatever appears in your mind is not your own choice. It is a projection of the ego, which mechanically repeats itself within us to experience specific objects and emotions. Anything that manifests automatically is something you need to observe, investigate, discern, and realize which ego, desire, need, belief, or programming is behind these thoughts and emotions, and eliminate it from your psyche.
Without a specific goal, you will continue to perceive the automatic expressions of the ego as your own.
Only when you have a specific goal and purpose can you resist the urge to identify with the mind and emotions.
Nevertheless, these will continue to charm you, distract you, and convince you that they are more important than the peaceful, silent presence that You Are.
Due to the power of habit and the allure that lower emotional states and lower pleasures exert on our mind, systematic practice with continuous purposes and goals is necessary to break this enchantment and identification, to free our attention, and to turn it inward.
The ‘secret’ to a plentiful life, a life of harmony, happiness and contentment is to have a sattvic mind free from desires and ego and to live in every moment in conscious contact with our true Self (Consciousness).
