The Death of the Ego
by Atman Nityananda / dcb
Freedom and complete union with our divine nature (Consciousness, Being, silent presence), which is one and the same with Cosmic Consciousness (God, Brahman, TAO), is achieved through the death of the ego.
To eliminate the ego is to kill your very self, as due to ignorance and identification, we perceive the body, the mind, and the ego as our self.
It’s like sitting on the highest branch of a hundred-meter tree and cutting off the branch you are sitting on.
And the ego fears, it does not want to die, and it resists with tooth and nail.
That is why many are on the path, but few reach the end. Until then, may your path be blessed!
Bhagavad Gita, Chapter VII, Verse 3
“Among thousands of men, scarcely one strives for perfection. And among those successful strivers, scarcely one knows me in truth.”
Complete union with the Lord is difficult to attain. Among the many thousands of people, very few seek this union, and even among those who seek it, few reach the pinnacle of spiritual realization.
~ Swami Sivananda
The ‘secret’ to a plentiful life, a life of harmony, happiness and contentment is to have a sattvic mind free from desires and ego and to live in every moment in conscious contact with our true Self (Consciousness).
