On Duality
by Atman Nityananda / fcb
Duality is not just about good and evil. Good and evil exist in the mind.
In the world of phenomena, duality appears as complementary pairs: day-night, attraction-repulsion, cold-heat, etc.
We also observe this in human concepts like Yin-Yang, the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, and so on.
However, the main issue with duality is that humans, being in a state of unconsciousness, ignorance, and identification with the body, perceive the body as themselves, separate from the highest universal principle and the source of life (what religions refer to as God).
This principle is Consciousness, formless, timeless, indivisible, indestructible, immortal, free, peaceful, complete, unchanging, and blissful.
In simple terms, living in duality means that we feel ourselves as separate from God. That is, “I and God” are seen as two different things, rather than ONE and the SAME.
The truth, however, is that our essential nature or Beingness is God Itself.
Realizing this dissolves the illusion of duality, that is, the illusion of separation or difference between us (the apparently individual Consciousness) and Universal Consciousness, and we are freed from the Matrix of the senses and the mind.
This is the ultimate purpose of human life.
Until then, enjoy the journey through Maya (the Matrix).
I made some minor changes for fluency. Let me know if you’d like any adjustments!
The ‘secret’ to a plentiful life, a life of harmony, happiness and contentment is to have a sattvic mind free from desires and ego and to live in every moment in conscious contact with our true Self (Consciousness).
