Do I Prefer Slavery or Freedom?
by Atman Nityananda / fcb
People want to live free, but they have become so accustomed to their slavery that they fear abandoning it.
Slavery gives the ego an illusory sense of security, but freedom offers no guarantee of safety for our ego.
Therefore, it is better for the ego to suffer in its prison (which is made of thoughts, beliefs, attachments, desires, and identifications), a prison that is familiar and where it (thinks it) has some control, rather than face the unknown, which it cannot control in any way.
It is like death for the ego to let go of all these things, and that is why it finds it difficult to do so.
Because, without all these things, what will the ego be, that is, who or what will you be? All these things create the illusion of yourself, what you think you are, and at the same time, your prison.
Even though the prison and the chains are merely a mental construct, due to identification and ignorance, they seem like a huge mountain or an impenetrable forest.
Nevertheless, the light of freedom shines steadily within us, and if we turn toward it, the darkness of the mind will dissolve, just as the darkness dissolves in the light of the rising Sun.
The ‘secret’ to a plentiful life, a life of harmony, happiness and contentment is to have a sattvic mind free from desires and ego and to live in every moment in conscious contact with our true Self (Consciousness).
🌺 Peace, Love, Harmony
