Ego, Mind and Awareness
by Atman Nityananda
What is experiencing the external reality and inner reality?
It is consciousness, operating through the mind—whose center is the ego—that experiences itself as forms.
What makes the experience possible is the reflection of consciousness or awareness in the mind that illuminates the mind, the sensory object as well as the subjective emotional and mental experience.
Again, it is the mixture of consciousness with the mind that enables any external or internal experience—that is, sensory objects, sounds, images, taste, thoughts, emotions, etc.
Yet it is the pure sattvic mind that enables us to experience our divine nature, which is beyond sensory and psychological realities.
The ego as a veil
The ego is the factor that grounds the consciousness in the body, and mind and directs the light of consciousness towards the objects of sensory reality, and also in the structures of psychological reality.
It is also the ego itself, especially the lower rajasotamasic ego and the density of the lower mind (due to rajas, tamas, and flaws), and the extroversion, distraction, and unsteadiness that ego and rajas cause to the mind, that hinder us from experiencing, here and now in the timeless moment, the peace, freedom, and infinite bliss of the primordial awareness (our divine nature).
Therefore, when the ego subsides, by means of practice or spontaneously by itself in certain circumstances, which makes the mind become serene, transparent, introverted and steady, we remain effortlessly in our true nature, the silent space of primordial awareness or consciousness, and peace, freedom, and infinite bliss are experienced.
Purification of mind amd heart
The primordial awareness always remains as an uninvolved silent space of awareness, peaceful, whole, and blissful; however, it depends on the state of mind whether it is experienced or not.
It is a pure sattvic mind free from egoic tendencies and ego that enables us to experience effortlessly, firmly, and clearly the peace, freedom, and bliss of our true nature (Being-Consciousness).
Therefore, devote yourself fully to the purification, transformation, and development of the mind if you want to go beyond the mind and abide steadily and effortlessly in your true nature (Being-Consciousness) and live in infinite peace, freedom, and bliss.
The ‘secret’ to a plentiful life, a life of harmony, happiness and contentment is to have a sattvic mind free from desires and ego and to live in every moment in conscious contact with our true Self (Consciousness).
🌺 Peace, Love, Harmony
