Ego, Emotions and Consciousnesses
by Atman Nityananda

Desire and emotions are modifications of the ego itself.

For instance, anger is not something different to the sense of me or I (that is, the ego), but it is only a formulation of the I or ego itself.

That is why the stronger the expression of an emotion is, the stronger becomes the experience of me.

Therefore, by eliminating the energy of any feeling, emotion or desire, we weaken not only the tendency itself but also the me or self, which means that the sense of me identity identified with the boy and mind is also weakened. However, the weakening of the tendency is first felt, and much later the weakening of the sense of the me or I is felt, since it is related to all other egoic tendencies, emotions, etc.

Finally, I would like to mention that everything is essentially consciousness, which, by the way, does not contradict the fact that all emotional reactions and desires are an expression or rather a modification of the ego itself.

The ‘secret’ to a plentiful life, a life of harmony, happiness and contentment is to have a sattvic mind free from desires and ego and to live in every moment in conscious contact with our true Self (Consciousness).
