Ignorance and Knowledge

What is ignorance?
The perception and belief ‘I am the body and the mind’ is ignorance.
Firm awareness and firm conviction, born of direct experience, ‘I am Consciousness’, is knowledge.
Ignorance is the (apparent) identification of the Self (Consciousness) with the non-self (body, vital energy, mind, intellect, causal body), it is perceiving and believing that the body is our Self. Ignorance is the illusion that we are a body-mind entity separated from God and the world.
What is Knowledge?
Knowledge of the Self is the means of getting rid of ignorance and the misery and suffering that ignorance causes. Knowledge is of two kinds, indirect and direct.
Indirect knowledge is a means of acquiring the direct knowledge of the Self, that is, knowledge through our own experience.
Direct knowledge is the realization that we are the nondual, formless and timeless Consciousness ever-present in us as the silent, peaceful and blissful background of all our experiences (sensory and psychological).
