The symbiotic relationship between thoughts and emotions
by Atman Nityananda
The relationship between emotions and thoughts is very close and the manifestation of one affects the quality of the manifestation of the other.
Emotions and thoughts share an intricate symbiotic relationship. The expression of emotions can be intensified or tempered by our mental processes, while our thoughts can be influenced and guided by the emotional backdrop in our minds.
While emotions can shape our thoughts and thoughts can amplify our emotions, the underlying factors that give rise to thoughts and emotions are desire, identification, and attachment.
Both emotions and thoughts find their origins in fundamental aspects of human psychology – desire, identification, and attachment. Our desires, whether they relate to achieving certain goals or avoiding negative outcomes, drive our emotional responses and cognitive processing.
Therefore, to successfully manage our minds and free ourselves from mental emotional patterns, habits and tendencies the most important factor is to deal with our desires, attachments and identifications.
