Aum! Self-enquiry
by Atman Nityananda
Self-enquiry is a direct and experiential process of self-discovery that leads to greater self-awareness, spiritual awakening, and full realization of the true nature.
Self-enquiry is a practice that involves examining ourselves in order to discern between the apparent self (body-mind-me) and the true Self (Consciousness).
It is a process of uncovering the underlying source of consciousness beyond the ego identity. Self-enquiry is a commonly used technique in various spiritual traditions, including Advaita Vedanta, Buddhism, and Sufism.
In Advaita Vedanta, self-enquiry involves questioning the nature of the self using the question “Who Am I?” This inquiry is focused on exploring the fundamental question of what is ultimately Real or True and the focusing steadily on the Real.
The purpose of self-enquiry is to awaken to the truth of one’s true nature, establish ourselves on it and express it fully.
Self-enquiry is the chief means through which, the illusion of the ego or the false sense of self can be dissolved. The result is a direct and unmediated experience of our true nature as pure awareness or consciousness.
The purpose of self-enquiry is to awaken to the truth of one’s true nature, establish ourselves on it and express it fully.
