Lust, Desire and Suffering
by Atman Nityananda

Uneasiness, the sense of lack or not enough and dissatisfaction or discontentment manifest themselves regardless of what is happening without.

All the above mentioned emotions are only expressions of the lower Vital – Emotional Ego, that is, the Lusty Ego.

It is the nature of lower rajasotamasic Vital-emotional ego to manifest itself in us frequently or very frequently even without any external reason.

Why?

Because on the one hand, we don’t experience plenitude, happiness and wholeness and on the other hand the lower ego in us almost constantly wants to experience some kind of sensory pleasure, especially sexual pleasure and then food pleasure or anything we can consume by mouth.

So, in reality the lower vital ego wants to experience sexual pleasure (sex pleasure with orgasm is the origin of this lower lusty ego, the prohibited fruit 🍑 or tree of Eden).
Since this (having constantly sex pleasure) is impossible, the Ego seeks to substitute this pleasure with some other carnal pleasure (first of all with food, sweets, drinks, etc.) and also with all kinds of pleasant experiences.

As long as our energy field, mind and heart are impure and strongly conditioned by the greedy lusty ego we cannot experience steadily and deeply plennitud, peace, beauty and freedom and also we cannot avoid the above mentioned emotional expressions (sense of lack, uneasiness, dissatisfaction, etc.) and the impulse of seeking pleasure.

With such a psychological state, complete acceptance of what is happening moment to moment is just impossible. Theoretically possible, practically impossible, at least most of the time.

This state of lacking, dissatisfaction and seeking pleasures is accompanied inevitably by insecurity, fear (worries, anxiety, agony, doubts, insecurity), anger (irritability, annoyance, resentment, dislike, aversion, indignation, hatred, rage) disappointment, frustration, depression and sadness.

Why?

Because all these emotional states are nothing more than modifications of desire (lust), which is also the original cause of identifications, attachments and addictions.

To conclude, desire is nothing else than the lower rajasotamasic Ego itself. Ego and desire are one and the same element. Ego is essentially desiring. That is why by dissolving desire we dissolve the Ego and vice versa.

The conquest of the three archenemies
by Swami Sivananda

Lust, anger and pride are the root of all human diseases. They are the enemies of peace and the relatives of all evils.

Get up in the morning and meditate on the havoc these three wreak in the life of man. If you develop the feeling that they will sap your physical and mental vitality, and that you should eradicate them for your own good, then the conquest of these three enemies will be an easy matter.

Victory over these three arch-enemies of man is the greatest conquest.

Eliminating the lusty, greedy ego or the I, what remains is pure love, unfathomable peace, infinite bliss.
