Introduction

Our true or divine nature (the silent presence of Consciousness), Being-Consciousness, is not something we must find somewhere far away, nor a reality foreign to our experience. It is the innermost and most fundamental element of our existence, always present here and now, in the timeless instant. For this reason, the search for Being-Consciousness does not consist in discovering something located elsewhere, in another dimension, but in directly realizing that which is already present.

The problem is not that our true or divine nature (Being-Consciousness) is not present, but the ignorance and delusion that prevent us from experiencing it consciously. This ignorance is not a vague concept, but a state that operates through the mind and the ego in the form of covering, projection, identification, and confusion. All of these together, centered on the ego, prevent us from having discernment, clear perception, and awareness-consciousness of our Being, and at the same time make us identify with the body and the mind.

Quick Reference

Being-Consciousness is always present silent presence of Consciousness
Ignorance obscures it tamas covers, rajas projects, ego identifies
Identification and suffering attachment, aversion, fear, desire
Practice purifies the mind sattva rises, discernment develops
Awakening occurs instant, direct realization of Being
Establishment and liberation ego dissolves, mind rests in Being

↻ the ego can pull the mind back at any stage until fully dissolved

  • Ignorance — active identification with body/mind, and ignorance of the true nature.
  • Tamas — the veiling quality; dulls discernment.
  • Rajas — the projecting quality; fuels desire and restlessness.
  • Sattva — clarity, purity, intelligence; it is the factor that helps us to achieve Self-realization, but is eventually transcended too.
  • Ego — the “I am this” mechanism that creates false identification, with the body, mind, etc..
  • Discernment — the ability to distinguish Being from its changing contents.
  • Awakening — the sudden, direct realisation of Being-Consciousness.
  • Establishment-Self-realisation — the mind resting steadily absorbed in that silence. Full dissolution of ego and desires; permanent liberation.
