Does the ego exists?
by Atman Nityananda
The ego is an energetic element composed of psychic vital energy and the three gunas (sattva, rajas, tamas).
As the ego is a field of psychic energy, it occupies mainly a zone from the navy to the eyes but we feel it mostly in the chest, throat and face up to the lips.
The ego provokes identifications and through them identity. Primarily, it makes us identify with the body and feel or sense that the body is ourselves, i.e., I am the body.
No matter what we may call the ego, the truth is that the ego exists and has specific characteristics, aspects and functions.
To affirm the ego is illusory is correct, however, to deny the existence of the ego is false.
